Latino Blog Series Part II - Latino Blogosphere Maturing

| | Comments (7) | TrackBacks (0)
This is another installment of the Latino Bloggers Series (formally known as "What Latino Bloggers Need To Do".

The Latino Blogosphere is now becoming more authoritative:  There are gossip sites, blog-journalists, witty-opinions, book reviews, independent voices, news sites, Venezuelan sites, activism, politics, marketers, authors.

Note I said in the title that the Latino-blogosphere is maturing - not matured yet.  We can consider this the tip of the iceberg and the beginning of Latino Blogs maturing.  Just a few short years ago, Latino bloggers looked and felt like a faint aspiration of their author's intentions.  Those fledgling days are being outpaced by some of the strides made by Latino bloggers on a daily basis.  And now with election year upon us like salsa on a taco, we will see more establishments, organizations, reporters, shows, average Jose's look up Latino blogs than before.

And so is Spanish-language television. Take a look at this recent news announcement about coverage of Super Tuesday by ImpreMedia and V-Me: http://www.vmetv.com/_files/_official_pr/impremedia.pdf

I also here that V-Me will be doing a weekly show--Viva Voz Desde Washington--on election issues (and not the horse race) every week once a week until election day itself.

I'm looking forward to the future of Latinos on the net. Our population is growing at an "alarming" rate (lol)..we need to educate and continue the exchange of information

There is a site in Puerto Rico called PuertoBlogs.com. There are over 900+ bloggers on the site. There is also another site called Blogalaxia.com with bloggers from all over Latin America. I also participate on a site called SocialMedian.com where I clip and post news about Hispanics/Latinos in the US and Latin America. The group I formed is called Y Hispanos. On there I have been able to post information about the impact of Hispanos/Latinos in the blogosphere and global news.

Hi Lucilla, that is very interesting to know. If you wouldn't mind, do you have something written up on this? or can write something up on this? I'd be very excited to post it here as well as some other things you may have written on what you mention here (especially the last statement). Please let me know.

We Latinos have much to think about and worry about these days, so as Latinos get on-line, it is time to discuss the issues affecting our Latino Communities instead of trivial BS.

When talking about the Latino population or the Latino Economy, none of us can disconnect from each other. We are all part of the same community.

For every Latino that has made it into college, 1000s are waiting, hoping, working hard or have already given up hope. For we documented Latinos, there is an entire community of Latinos living in the shadows that need our help and support.

We have many opportunities to do some serious good for this nation but we don't communicate our needs in a timely way, we are not unified nor do we share information that is valuable to our communities. Our leaders cower when asked to step up and speak for or defend our Latino Community.

The Blogosphere can be a place for our communities to connect and support each other, to ask for help and recieve immediate assistance and a place where we can be heard, so we don't feel so invisable.

Noone will support our Community until we get the courage to take care of ourselves.

More to come...
