About this Entry

Hola Louis y buenas noches,
IOW we can finally kick out those idiots in the Republican legislature in Arizona, and get rid of racists like Sheriff Joe Arpathetico, all in one fell swoop! Arizona is ripe for Democratic conquest, and Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada will soon join them. We need to continue mobilizing in California, and of course to look toward Texas-- soon with a Latino majority!
The only problem is, Latino voter registration and participation are still at terribly low levels. We have the right under federal law, also, to ensure mass provision and distribution of ballots en español in regions with large Latino populations, but so far, we've been behind the curve on ensuring ballots in Spanish (where federal law since the Mexican War protects full Spanish-language rights in the Southwest, and in Florida before that).
2008 is a historic election, but Latinos thus far aren't participating enough. And Republicans, true to form, are trying to introduce obstacles to make voter registration more difficult for the poor-- which means we also need private donors (e.g. wealthy and well-known minorities) to step up and contribute funds to assist in voter registration efforts. Our well-being as a people is at stake here.
