Soon...in a few years...whites may be a minority in a few states here and there.  But still, <strike>sadly</strike> ironically (for the future majority), they probably will maintain their status as the economical bottom.

Why "sadly". White Americans are the ones that started this nation, have contributed the most in its development, are responsible for most of the technological advancements and are the majority of the government. Minority or not, I don't ever see that changing any time in the next couple of hundred years unless there is some kind of race war which would only result in White America becoming the majority again. Nothing sadly about that.

Well, that also depends. Will we see a definition creep by then like has happened in the past?

After all, in Ben Franklin's time, 'white' wasn't even inclusive of all Germans, nevermind the Irish and Italians. Then it grew. And grew again.

Will Latinos be 'white' by 2050?

Based on the intermarriage, I have my suspicions. ;)

..."ironically," was the word I was looking for.

Race in America is a contrived concept. You might want to think about taking a blood test to see how many races make up the White race. In Spanish we have a saying, "y tu abuela donde esta?" "Where's your grandma?" Who in America can honestly claim to be pure White. We are in a melting pot. Wake up people. We need to measure ourselves by our merit. It sounds like they have forgotten that African Americans' immigration to this country was forced and this country was built on the backs of African Americans and other minorities. Given the historical economic inequalities in this country I would say African Americans have proven to be an extremely resilient, strong, intelligent and worthy people. Who better to champion the causes of underdogs but Barack Obama? I expect he will want to do his best by the Oval Office. He will be scrutinized more closely than certainly Bush has been. Democrats need to heal the old wounds of this country and move on. Wake up-we are being called to make historical changes here. Let's not blow this. Not like that. Not grappling with ugly issues like racism. Dr. King had a dream. Let's stand together behind that dream.

What you say is true, but old. Unfortunately, we need better ways to get past our conceived barriers than plain facts. Paranoia needs to be cured by sublime sanity, which may seem insane to a few.

When they counted the Cubans are they counting those poor devils hiding under the bridges in the Keys?
