  • 58 - 24 percent among Hispanic voters;
  • 51 - 26 percent among white Catholics;
  • 66 - 18 percent among Jews;
  • 43 - 37 percent among white Protestants
  • White evangelical Christians oppose the nomination 41 - 35 percent.

At the same time, Americans oppose by 70-19 her decision in one of her most prominent cases, Ricci vs. New Haven:

It's interesting that only 58% of Hispanics support Sotomayer - could it be they're not comfortable with her "wiser Latina" remarks?

This only proves that Sotomayor has the ability to make decisions based on what she feels is correct, and not base it on race or to please the masses for brownie points.

Her decision itself was supportive of a race-based policy which many consider excessive. But if your point is that she did not favor her race (she ruled against the plaintiffs who were white and Hispanic) then I agree.

The Supreme Court is expected to overturn her decision, which would make her hearings more interesting.
