Cuba, America, and a Blog
Although Val Prieto, may take some offence to my placing this topic under the category Latino, I nonetheless have done it. Sorry, Val.
Val, and myself have been exchanging comments concerning Cuba, and the U.S.'s current renewed interest under the Bush administration. We have contributed our knowledge towards the subject as far as economics, labor, health, and race classification.
Although, I do not agree with Val on some of his points I do want freedom for Cuba. Living under a tyrant is no fun under the sun. Why Bush wants to do it now can be left up to debate.
As discussed in a previous post , we cannot please all the people all the time. I actually choose the name "Latino-pundit," because of the lumping affect. Yes, there are ups and downs to this if you care to read the link that refers you to ColoradoLuis' explanation.
I choose the up side of lump because it puts us together. Unity. Val, you would have to make a little more noise to get noticed outside the "lump." I can see why you do not like the term. However, for me I feel we are stronger united. Maybe I should say "people of the equator," or "those of the tropic of cancer." You see there is no pleasing everyone.
I tell you this when the infamous Christopher Columbus came here he did not differentiate any of us. He saw us all the same. Or better, he saw us all different than him. Too bad we can not see each other as the same. I hear too many times, "Ah, Puerto Ricans, I have nothing to do with them I am Mexican," or "Ecuadorians, they are not like us."
I even stated this comment on his site:
When I was very young I thought that we Latinos, Cubanos, Puerto Ricans, Chicanos, south americans, central, north etc etc., were vulnerable because we chose to seperate ourselves. We made ourselves smaller, weaker, by seperation.
How the events would of been different if the Europeans landed on a nation united from Coast to Coast. I wonder what Wampum, would think of this.
So under my umbrella Cubans, are the same as me-Latino. We can disagree, but I will not let that separate us.
Val's blog site, Babablublog, is the authoritative blog on Cuba. If you have any interest that applies to Cuba visit Val.
Take my survey.
