Linda Chavez
(edited - this post got screwed up, thanks to an informed reader for pointing the mistake out.)
Linda Chavez, along with family members have developed numerous political action committees to raise money for political endeavors. Looks like the political action committee arena is very profitable:
Of the $24.5 million raised by the PACs from January 2003 to December 2006, $242,000 -- or 1 percent -- was passed on to politicians, according to a Washington Post analysis of federal election reports. The PACs spent even less -- $151,236 -- on independent political activity, such as mailing pamphlets.
Instead, most of the donations were channeled back into new fundraising efforts, and some were used to provide a modest but steady source of income for Chavez and four family members, who served as treasurers and consultants to the committees. Much of the remaining funds went to pay for expenses such as furniture, auto repairs and insurance, and rent for the Sterling office the groups share. Even Chavez's health insurance was paid for a time from political donations.
"I guess you could call it the family business," Chavez said in an interview.
I guess. No, nothing illegal here. But we see a disturbing potential for abuse in an unchecked system - or is there abuse?
Linda has stated that her ventures are to promote her political agenda. This scares me, as she blames Americans for being too concerned about Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton for losing the war, which is a harsh and insane comment.
Linda Chavez also calls the deaths of Americans and the suffering of American families less than an inconvenience: ". Except for minor inconveniences at airport check-ins, most Americans are not asked to share any burden to win this war."
Her comments are insensitive to the sacrifices that fellow American have made who have died in this war and to the families who have suffered these losses. She portrays Americans as uncaring, unmoving, insensitive and uninvolved in this war when we have suffered from terrorism, death, fear and loss. Please, quit your day job and go crawl under a rock.
Take my survey.
