NY Wants 'Amazon' Tax

| | Comments (3)
NY will suck the money-blood right out of you;; the whole fun of ordering online is not paying taxes because we are buying out of state:

"NY Governor David Paterson is expected to sign a bill requiring online retailers to collect sales taxes on purchases shipped to the state, even if they have no operations or employees working there. The so-called 'Amazon tax', which applies to Internet retailers who derive sales through affiliate programs, would end what for many New Yorkers had been tax-free shopping and generate an estimated $50M in revenue this fiscal year. Experts predict that other states could follow suit with similar provisions."

I wonder if this is a way around it: get an out of state mailbox at one of those private vendors (NJ?), and deliver the items there, and either pick them up or have the place forward them to you.  Or just move out of this crappy state, like I am thinking of doing.

An amazing Superbowl game; an amazing Super Tuesday; 2008 is off to a great start.  Remind me next election year to take off the day after the Superbowl and Super Tuesday and the next day after - I feel like I just stepped off a red-eye flight.

Did you get out and vote?  I did, but was disappointed when my name was not on the roster sheet of registered voters.  The district workers stated that that has happened a lot through the day (my immediate suspicions arose, but later subsided).  So, with paper ballot in hand I filled in the little circles, sealed the envelope and dropped it off to be signed by the worker.  Funny thing, that the same had happened to my fiancé, in her district.  Conspiracy?  Nah...probably an address screw up.

Gong to work today:  Am I surprised?  Is it no wonder, that the same people who expressed magnificent exuberance about the Superbowl game look at me cock-eyed when I boast of how great Super Tuesday's election night was?  It's a shame most are more concerned with a game rather, than with their lives or country.  No, no surprises here, but it is fun:  "Man, did you see that election last night?"  LOL

Obama - NY Updates

I've been recieving a lot of emails about this lately:

Three Puerto Ricans with alleged ties to the independence movement in Puerto Rico have been subpoenaed to appear in Brooklyn Federal Court Friday to answer to a grand jury.

Graphic designer Tania Frontera, social worker Christopher Torres and filmmaker Julio Antonio Pabon are due in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York Friday. There are also indications that the FBI is trying to locate and subpoena Hector Rivera, one of the founders of the Welfare Poets, a New York-based collective of activists and poets.

Expected to have caused organized protests in Puerto Rico Thursday night, the investigation of these individuals by the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice also sparked New York City Council members to gather on the steps of City Hall Thursday in opposition to the subpoenas.

Some would do it for a year's tuition, and others for a mere iPhone.  Is this the most materialistic generation ever, or is voting and youth synonymous for undervalued?

Hattip.
"You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin when the dealins done."

-Kenny Rogers

Isn't that true?  - nobody backed up Spitzer's Aces.

Now, isn't this just stupid?  We are going to base our budget for reasons of immigration?  Out the window goes educational needs, security needs and allocating money based on populations...you know, stuff that really matters.
Look to leave the smudged print day job and jump to a dynamic digital format and get your press pass down-graded.  Huh?  That's what happened to    Read it in detail.

I find it strange that the video is unavailable via both blogs.
